what is the life span of the magnetometer normally?
Article Details

Last Updated

The magnetometer should remain operational indefinitely if it is properly cared for.  In other words, there is nothing to “wear out” and it never needs to be sent to the factory for “calibration” or tune up.  Marine magnetometers should have the salt water rinsed off after operation and the zinc anodes should be replaced on a 1 year schedule or as required.
